Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
